چکیده

Introduction: Agrammatism in Broca’s aphasia is a language disorder that is characterized by a selective syntactic deficit, often in comprehension as well as in speech production. According to the Trace Deletion Hypothesis (TDH, Grodzinsky, 1990, 1995, 2000), the deficit in comprehension in agrammatic aphasia is attributed to impaired representation of structures with non-canonical word order derived by syntactic movement.

Agrammatic comprehension of simple active sentences with moved constituents: Hebrew OSV and OVS structures.

This study examines agrammatic comprehension of object-subject-verb (OSV) and object-verb-subject (OVS) structures in Hebrew. These structures are syntactically identical to the basic order subject-verb-object (SVO) sentence except for the movement of the object to the beginning of the sentence, and thus enable empirical examination of syntactic movement in agrammatic comprehension. Seven indiv...

On the relation between Structural Case, determiners, and verbs in agrammatism: A Study of Hebrew and Dutch

Background & Aims: This study explored the relation between the production of determiners and case-markers and the production of verbs and verb inflections in agrammatism. Determiners and case-markers require case and therefore depend on the existence of caseassigning constituents. Since verbs and verb inflections are case-assigners, and are impaired in agrammatism, we tested whether the presen...

A cross-linguistic study of grammatical morphology in Spanish- and English-speaking agrammatic patients.

To account for cross-linguistic differences in agrammatism, Bates and her colleagues have employed the Competition Model, proposing that the cue validity and cue costs of a grammatical morpheme in a particular language will directly affect how agrammatism is manifested. Using Goodglass et al.'s (1993) Morphosyntax Battery in English and a translated version in Spanish, we analyzed the use of eq...
